Chicago Animal Care and Control closes Adopt Local: Chicago Shelter Pet Week with a full-day adoption celebration at the city shelter. Adoption fees are waived for every dog and cat from September 8 through 13, and CACC staff and volunteers will be on hand to help you meet the animals available. All adopted pets leave spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Chicago residents pay a $5 city dog licence fee, which cannot be waived and is paid at the shelter.
